All social problems such as poverty, unemployment, immigration, substance abuse, delinquency, street children, children in need of protection, old age, neglect and abuse cases, disability and illness fall within the scope of social work. The methods of coping with the current situation are carried out by social workers and social service technicians. Unfortunately, the importance of intermediate staff trained in the field of social work has been ignored during the fifty years of social work education in Turkey. The reasons such as the shortage of intermediary staff in social services, the increase in the need for help through social services, and the difficulty in finding personnel to carry out the work reveal the need for social work technicians/intermediate staff.
With the increase in social problems in our country in recent years, the need for intermediate staff for a qualified workforce with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills needed in the field of social work has increased. For this reason, it is aimed to eliminate the need for intermediate staff with our Social Services program.
Students who have graduated from secondary education and placed in the Social Services Program with the TYT score type of the Student Selection and Placement System (ÖSYM) are accepted.
Graduates of the program can continue their undergraduate education in Social Work (6318 - graduation code) and Sociology (3319 - graduation code) departments by taking the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by OSYM. Afterwards, they can have the opportunity to do master's and doctorate.
It has been observed that the demand for these departments has increased with the increase in the problems of disadvantaged groups such as women, families, children, the disabled, the elderly and the young, and the importance of solution processes/policies and the increasing importance of the social work field. Considering these situations, graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge in the field are needed.
In addition, the working areas of the graduates of the program are quite wide. Those working in this field are primarily permanent dormitory management officers affiliated to the Directorate of Credit and Hostels Institution, and in other institutions and organizations, public and private hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health, guidance research centers affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, special education and rehabilitation centers, kindergartens and institutions. He can work as a social services assistant/technician in day care centers, institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Family and Social Policies (provincial/district directorates, kindergartens, love homes, children's homes, care and rehabilitation centers, etc.), and provincial directorates of İş-Kur.
